Require Learners Participation
Explain to the students what assignment they will be doing.
I will then show the students the 2 different local foods that they see at the stores.
Introduce the ingredients while they are holding the food and see what different types are present in the food.
Each group will be divided to focus on one particular food and write and draw what ingredients are in their food and compare with the other groups food. [using construction paper]
Then the students will work together as a group and go online to research on how much of the ingredients they have on their list are used in the particular food they have & compare the other groups food and find out which is more healthier.
Next the students have to come up with a number or percentage of ingredients used and plug it into a spreadsheet using excel and creating a graph or chart using the data they collected.
Then, the two groups will come together and create a class chart/graph using all the data collected and compare and contrast the 2 foods and see all the results.
Finally, we will have a class discussion on all the information and have the students reflect on the results about the 2 local foods that are popular & well known.
Evaluate and Revise
As students are working on their activity teacher goes around and makes sure students are on task and working together as a team.
Finally, we will all review the assignment and what we all learned as well as have an open discussion about the assignment and any comments about what they all feel about the 2 foods before they did the assignment and after.
